Girl’s Night Out
The first weekend in May is opening weekend for Duck Shooting Season. Traditionally it’s a weekend that’s all about the blokes and their manly pursuits while the girls are left at home with barely a second glance…so this year we hosted a night out for the ladies.
The night started with a glass of bubbles and hors d’oeuvres. Make Up Artist, Lynette Watson of Heavenly Faces and Hair Stylist Ka Vaneyk, from Hair by Nature, kept the girls entertained with some handy tips on styling. Afterwards everyone indulged in a fabulous two course meal before dancing the night away. And all our guests went home with a goody bag packed full with amazing product samples and discount vouchers.
Congratulations to Jane Webster who won the door prize valued at nearly $600.00. Her prize included vouchers for a free cut and colour at Hair by Nature, a make up lesson by Heavenly Faces, a wardrobe consultancy from Simply Stylish and $250.00 of clothing from Cocoon Fashion.
Judging by the feedback and the photos of the girl’s in action, (check them out in our photo gallery), the night was a huge success. Keep an eye on our website for details of other upcoming events.
Coastguard ART AUCTION
During the Easter Carnival we commissioned three original chainsaw sculptures. These were carved carved from 1200mm logs of Cypress kindly donated by local kitchen joinery firm Natural Timber Creations in Pungaere Road.
The finished artworks were auctioned on Trade Me with profits going to Coastguard Bay Of Islands. The first piece was a bench seat resting between two horses heads. This was bought by Woodlands Motel and we ecourage you to pop in and have a look at it on display. The second piece was a striking Whale’s Tail with very simple, very strong lines and this found a good home with a local yachtie. Our third sculpture was a Fish Hook and this went to a buyer from the North Shore of Auckland. You can see photos of all the sculptures in our gallery.
In total we raised $725.00 for Coastguard Bay Of Islands. Many thanks to all the bidders who supported this worthy cause.
EASTER CARNIVAL
Hundreds of families arrived bright and early for the Easter Carnival held on Easter Sunday. We started with a massive Easter Egg Hunt and eager chocolate lovers took just thirty minutes to sniff out the 234 marshmallow and hollow chocolate eggs hidden around the Pear Tree grounds. This was followed by an egg and spoon race. Surprisingly not too many eggs were broken, although some adults discovered it wasn’t as easy as it looked during the parents’ race.
Then it was a chance to rest up and watch the main event - the inaugural Pear Tree Raft Race. Entry fees were donated to Coastguard Bay of Islands who generously “assisted” by hosing down our athletes to keep them cool. The pace was fast and furious and the ‘Mad Chas’ team narrowly defeated second place getters the ‘Hikerenui Hecklers’. Third over the line and leading the charge for the ‘Under 15’s’ was ‘Super Cat’, (it seems like the previous nights practice paid off). It was a little hard to tell how everyone else placed due to several water fights and acts of piracy on the high seas. One or two vessels suffered from leaky raft syndrome and were rescued by our mates at Coastguard.
